Robin Wortman is Cree-Métis from northern Alberta. He completed his post secondary education in Edmonton and Quebec City. He has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and Resource Economics with a specialization in federal provincial relations.
Robin has an extensive background in Aboriginal economic development and corporate relations. He has worked in various positions related to Aboriginal affairs within government, at the federal and provincial levels, private industry, and the non-profit sector. From 1983 to 1986, Robin served as Legislative Assistant to the Chairman of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Indian Affairs and Northern Development. From 1986 to 1990, Robin served as Executive Assistant to the Ministers of Forestry, Lands and Wildlife, Education, and Agriculture, in the Alberta Government.
As a Senior Associate Professor at Royal Roads University, Robin designed a three-course Indigenous Corporate Relations program. Robin was a member of the Advisory Council for the Aboriginal Leadership and Management Program at the Banff Centre from 1992 to 2002. From 1992 to 1997, Robin was the founding National Director of the Council for the Advancement of Native Development Officers (CANDO), a national association of economic development officers working in native communities and organizations.
